As the USVI celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Territory’s transfer, International Capital & Management Company (ICMC) is pleased to announce a special centennial edition of its Jazz in the Park music series featuring some of the Virgin Island’s most celebrated musicians. This free event is set for Saturday, February 25th from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in St. Thomas’ Roosevelt Park.
Now in its eighth year, Jazz in the Park has grown to become one of the most popular and highly-anticipated community events on St. Thomas. This special, expanded edition features two sound stages with multiple genres of music, an expanded Vendor’s Row to include a Health and Wellness Expo, a USVI Centennial Expo, cooking demonstrations and an exciting Cultural Kid’s Zone.
Performing on stage one will be the ever popular Louis Taylor and the Caribbean Project from St. Thomas, bringing renditions of local, regional, Latin American and straight ahead Jazz music. Also featured will be Marsvyn David and the Virgin Islands Rhythm Section from the island of St. Croix. This popular Jazz band touts some of the Territory’s best on its roster, led by bassist and arranger, Marsvyn David.
The second sound stage will feature, Quelbe, the official music of the Virgin Islands, led by legendary St. Croix band, Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights who have reigned as the premier ambassadors of Quelbe music since the early 1970s. They will be joined by Khemistry who will bring their unique reggae artistry to the stage.
“Although our line-up usually includes both visiting and local musicians, we wanted to celebrate this important Centennial milestone by uniquely showcasing the world-class and diverse talent of Virgin Islanders,” said Cornel Williams, ICMC President. “This very unique event is a true testament to the talent that resides in the Territory as we celebrate this very special occasion in USVI history.”
Included in the day’s festivities will be Quadrille and Bamboula dance presentations as well as performances by ICMC Centennial Spoken Word finalists, reciting their Centennial-themed original works. Finalists were selected based on creativity, length and Centennial theme relation.
Attendees can expect one of the largest audiences to date and are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for their listening comfort.
Jazz in the Park is made possible by the support of the following sponsors: USVI Department of Tourism, Innovative, Marriott Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star, Barefoot Wines and Budweiser, Today’s Satellite Television Virgin Islands and the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI).
